The 8-Step Cloud Migration Checklist for Nigerian Businesses

Moving workloads to the cloud is one of the most impactful technology decisions a Nigerian business can make. Done correctly, it reduces capital expenditure, improves availability, and gives your team access to enterprise-grade capabilities previously reserved for large corporations. Done incorrectly, it introduces new risks, unexpected costs, and operational disruption.

Step 1: Assess your current environment. Before touching a single server, document what you have: hardware inventory, software licenses, network topology, and — critically — which systems are business-critical and what their downtime tolerance is.

Step 2: Define your cloud objectives. Cost reduction, improved availability, business continuity, or enabling remote work? Your objectives determine your architecture, your vendor selection, and your migration sequencing.

Step 3: Choose the right cloud model. Public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) is cost-effective and scalable. Private cloud gives you control. Hybrid cloud — usually the best option for Nigerian enterprises — keeps sensitive workloads on-premise while pushing commodity workloads to public cloud.

Step 4: Select your vendors and tools. Your choice of cloud provider matters less than most vendors will tell you. What matters more is the migration tooling, the local support capability, and the ongoing management services available in Nigeria.

Step 5: Plan your migration waves. Migrate non-critical systems first. Learn. Refine your approach. Then tackle business-critical workloads with the confidence of proven methodology.

Steps 6–8 cover connectivity, security hardening, and post-migration optimisation — the three areas where most Nigerian cloud migrations encounter the most friction. Contact Eneden for a detailed walkthrough of our 8-step methodology.
